KP and all-
I just wanted to say thanks for all the information you’ve shared on the board and to KP especially for the consultations. Overall, I had a great race (for me) in LP the other day.
I didn’t have a particularly good swim. It felt overly aggressive the whole way and I could feel myself getting angry at the masses, so I tried to keep calm and swim easy. It seemed like everyone wanted a swim PR that day. Came out top 200 anyway, so not so bad.
I had a perfectly paced bike (again, for me). The last legs of both loops, including the climb back to LP, were only three minutes different. Any time I lost on the second lap of the bike was in the ripping headwind on 9N when I decided not to push too hard into the wind. I ended up riding the same time as in Wisconsin in 2005 (11 seconds difference), but I really feel that set me up for a good run this time. I used a 10 min run / 45 second walk plan that worked great. For the last 12 miles on the bike and the entire marathon, I was constantly passing people – always a good mental boost!
I finished with a 38-minute overall PR, most of it coming from a 35-minute run PR.
Again, I wanted to thank everyone for publicly sharing your thoughts. While I can rarely relate to the level of training and speed you guys put out, the core of your experiences are applicable even to a true MOP guy like me. Also, thanks specifically to KP for the help this year.
