I was asked whether racing short course (Sprint or Oly) was a good idea four weeks out from an Ironman. Some thoughts ===>
One might consider the Oly distance race if -- you have deep fitness // have done previous IMs, proving that you have a rock solid fueling strategy // and used correct IM swim and bike efforts, meaning you have run successful marathons after swimming 2.4 miles and riding 112 miles at your previous IMs. If you failed at any of these parts of your past IMs and this one is important to you, you may be missing out on an opportunity to improve execution by racing short. I would weigh what benefit the Oly race might give you vs what going long might provide you. Sometimes it's hard to tell months from your IM.
