Wanaka - Thursday

Today Wanaka showed us how changeable her weather can be - we woke to a cool wind and rain which would make for an unpleasant ride if you weren't rugged up. Bring your winter gear, even in summer! This afternoon we bathed in sunshine and warm temperatures. I decided to ride the out-and-back section to Treble Cone and the road is considerably rougher than IMNZ! I tried snorting the painted white line and it made no difference - curse you Transit NZ for your policy on using volcanic chip on our roads!
The ride undulates (not hugely however), but it offers the perfect opportunity to waste any good pacing efforts from the majority of the ride - the course will pass the finish line and head out for the approx. 40-45km out-and-back (at least I think it's that long!) and it can be tempting to think there is only a small amount of the ride left and drill it, with the fake-ish flats adding some extra risk.
Registration took place and it was fantastic - no queues and a laid back, but professional, approach. The race venue has a lot less energy than IMNZ and I haven't seen one tense person.
I don't have any additional photos today, but will post some new ones tomorrow.
KP - we bumped into the McDonalds and passed on your regards.
Word to your Mom...
