Monday ride -- backing it up

Different weather today and I had company. The sky was clear and blue, but cool. Shorts and arm warmers weather -- 43 degrees at the start and about 56 to finish. Christine and Britni flew down from Vancouver to get in some good stuff above freezing. We rode up the coast and into Camp P. // Both gals will be racing at Cali 70.3 so we did some recon on the course. Once we got to Las Pulgas we headed right on the out and back portion. We passed the firestation and went all the way to Basilone which T-Bones Las Pulgas between the first climb and climb #2 on the back side. We flipped around there for the "back" portion of the extended out and back, left the base going north, went up the Harrier landing area, through the state park and out to where the course turns right onto Christianitos. At that point we continued north into San Clemente. We found a new coffee shop. I had a five shot espresso and two pastries! Christine was having some jumpy gear problems after her flight and in the coffee shop was a mechanic who works at Edge Cycle Sports with Hank. Not sure if he helped or not but she later rode like it helped.
Ride time up coast was 3:08. We lifted efforts for the return ride by almost 20w; skipped the out and back and made it home in 2:17 (compared to 2:40 yesterday) for total ride time of 5:25. My overall data was one heart beat higher than yesterday and plus five watts. The wind Sunday added 20min going home yesterday over the same course.
I was impressed by the gals coming out of the freezing great northwest and riding solidly. Christine races elite and Britni won her AG in Kona last year. I sucked wheel behind Chris most of the way home. She cuts damn aero profile but I was still getting some help back there! We'll swim, do a shorter bike, and run (for the women) tomorrow. Then some extended climbing and rollers out to Dudley's Bakery on Wednesday. Yet to be determined rides after that. It's going to be getting warmer as the week progresses. Looks like some sun screen may be needed for the whiter shade of pale.
