Wednesday Dudley's Bakery ride

Myself, Christine and Britni got in a solid swim this morning. It was 38 degrees on the pool deck but I had read reports about it being a beautiful day come sunrise. That's life in the desert. Post swim, I re-loaded with a nice breakfast of 10 grain hot cereal and diced apples. After an appointment of mine we met up for the ride in Scripps Ranch. It was 60 degrees by the time we rolled out at 11:00am

That's Britni on the left and Christine finishing up a flat repair. The ride to Dudley's is a classic IM prep ride. There is a 35min climb right out of the parking lot. Then a 3min break and another 25min climb to just outside Ramona. As we turn down toward the town of Ramona the road is about 2% descent. As Jaybirdman would say "I couldn't find my chain in my 56/12". Rollin' along at about 30-35mph in aero. Down on Main street there was a brief water stop before riding out the other side of town. We cut off 78 and took Old Julian Highway for some back country rollers. OJH then joins back up with 78 for a final extended climb and a couple more rollers before dropping down to Santa Ysabel and the Bakery. Our pit stop was where 78 crosses 76. To the left, 11 miles, is Lake Henshaw and the base of Palomar. Veer right at the lake and you are about 20 miles from Borrego Springs on 79 -- the real desert. Go straight on 78 and you have a seven mile climb to hit Julian. We skipped the bakery and hit Don's Market for refreshments.

Above, I am hitting the snack food; a one pound package of deli turkey breast.
I needed the flesh as Christine really scooted up the mountains.
She got to the store in about 2:16. I was 2:18.
Britni was right on my tail. That's a solid effort.

Above, Christine and I have a laugh before heading back to Scripps. Ride time back was 1:42 for a total ride time of 4hrs.
There was about 5000 feet of cummulative altitude gain. We smashed some of the rollers on the way back and stayed
solid into a brisk headwind of the flats. Great day out there!
