Thurs ride -- just under 200k and 7:15 ride time

We got in a big one today. A tough ride, not so much because of the distance but because of the terrain our route provided. C & B had been coming southeast to meet me near my home for the rides this week. This morning I drove northwest to meet them in La Costa. We left next to the Four Seasons in La Costa at 8:30am. Still cool at that time (43F / 6C) but we counted on some warmer weather later in the day.
Our plan was to ride south and make our way to Rancho Santa Fe Blvd. We followed that to Encinitas Blvd to Los Morros and into downtown Rancho Santa Fe. From there we hit Del Dios and took that to Valley Parkway, through Escondido and climbed up into Valley Center. We climbed into the Rincon Indian reservation and at 2:24 ride time loaded up with water and additional calories. It was nearly another 60min of climbing before we hit the South Grade of Palomar at 3:15 ride time. We took the right fork and stayed on 76 toward Lake Henshaw, 11 miles away. As we rode past Henshaw we caught a nice headwind, turned right on 79 and headed for Santa Yasabel, 7 miles further up the road. At this point, 79 feels like one big uphill roller with brisk headwinds. I was in a bit of a bother and rode pretty hard to Dudley's (from the opposite direction of yesterday's ride). This route to Dudley's is significantly tougher than the one we chose yesterday and twice as many miles. When I unclipped in Santa Ysabel we were at 4:24 ride time and 65 miles. Lots of climbing. Deli meat wasn't go to cut it today so I went for chocolate milk (200cal) a supersized Milky Way (460cal) and a V8 (70cal). As well, some cold straight water.
Chrisitne is riding very well and had lead us up the long climbs to Palomar. At the market I was content to sit in the shade and let my 'lunch' settle but she is not one to sit around for long. She asked what I thought our ride time was back to La Costa and I guessed about 3hrs. It was going to be a long ride. Time to move out. I commented on her sharp form and she said she had been doing her homework during the Holidays. No lie; she wasn't giving me any reason to question her! I down to put my gloves back on and when I looked up she was across the long straight away that leads back to the descent to Ramona.
Our plan was to hit Main Street, Ramona and take 78 down to San Pasqual and Bandy Canyon. Once down there the headwinds were funneling pretty good. We rode past the Wild Animal Park and turned left toward San Diego. Once in Bear Valley we made our way over the 15 to a much needed pit stop (for me). I was on edge and needed water and calories. Christine wanted to roll on. That woman is like a camel. She notifed me that this was the _last_ stop. All I could say was okay
We are now 6hrs into the ride and need to climb back up to Del Dios. We go left on DD, back toward Solana Beach; then right on Camino Del Norte and back out to Rancho Santa Fe Blvd. Once there CF looks over her shoulder and says if we are not home in 10min I am going to explode -- like a bomb. I said that she better re-set the switch because we had another 20-25min to go. I got into a bigger gear and hit it pretty hard for the next 10min. She didn't explode and we rode on. I popped and limped in over the last couple miles. When I was leaving in my truck I think Christine went looking for her running shoes. I drove one block and got three burritos (one carnitas, one carne asada, one california).
Solid solid ride (about 200k and 7:15 ride time).
