Julie, Justin and I had a great ride today. The weather stayed favorable all day and we accomplished a lot of work (180k and 10,000 feet of total elevation gain). J&J are looking good. We all shared some time at the front but Julie led out the climbs (with Justin right there) which make up the majority of the ride. She pushed the pace all day long and the result was sub 7hrs of ride time. We hit Dudley's in 2:17 and Banner store in 4:12 and back to our cars just shy of 7 hours. Highway S2 (in the Anzo Borrego desert) meets 78 on the desert floor just a few miles from Borrego Springs and twelve miles from Julian. We rode 78 up to Banner Store. The store is at the foot of Banner Grade or nine up to Julian. The location of the climb in the context of the ride is what makes it fun and challenging. From Julian, we hit Dudley's to Ramona, to Highland Valley and back to the 15 and our cars. This was Julie's first ride over 5hrs and first ride over 100 miles. This was Justin's longest ride as well as he fought through some physical issues. Both had some breakthroughs. No mechanicals until JBirdman's flat less than a mile from the cars.
Thanks Jules and JBirdman -- great day!
