Hey KP --
I've got some bad ITB issues on both legs. I went to a sports doc, and he had me start taping the front of my arch, and had me buy some OTC orthotics. Said I was collapsing / pronating a lot. Also noted that I was very inflexible in the hamstrings, and that I wasn't going to get a good ITB stretch until I loosened the hamstrings up some.
I asked him about cycling, and he said if it wasn't causing pain, then it wasn't part of the problem, except for contributing to muscle imbalance (I asked him about strengthening, he said if anything I was overmuscled from the cycling) & tightness.
1) can cycling cause irritation w/o pain, so that the pain only shows up on the run?
2) how long does it take for the orthotics to "kick-in"? My Brooks GTS actually have a good tread-wear pattern according to the guy at the running store, even w/o the orthotics. Can I assume that if I'm still breaking down then they aren't working?
3) I've been stretching and icing. ART worth a try? Any other recs? I have a foam roller, but it didn't really seem to do much for me.
I'm behind on my run prep for KS 70.3, so getting a little concerned about this.
Thanks for any help.
