Tuesday ride/run in the Arizona Territory

After our morning swim we had some breakfast before rolling out on the bikes. One group went for a medium ride that was a bit harder and one group did an easy to steady ride for just under 2hrs. I rolled out on the shorter ride and followed that up with a 50min rolling, technical trail run. It was a good day (just shy of 4hrs) after a couple tougher days and before a longer day tomorrow.
The views on the bike out here are really something // the kind of scenery old western movies were filmed in. The name “Tucson” was given to an old Spanish presidio back in the early 1800s which later became the capital of the Confederate Arizona Territory and later the Arizona Territory. I don’t think there was a whole lot of gunslinging out here but that doesn’t stop my imagination from working while riding around. I grew up watching westerns and was particularly enamored with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood flicks, but anything that involved names like Dodge, Tombstone, Wild Bill, Calamity Jane, Shootout at the OK Corral, Buffalo Bill, Liver Eating Johnson, etc. were a good time for me.
Today I was riding around out in the country, passing gem, rock and mineral stores, old west movie lots, listening to some tunes, day dreaming of the wild west, thinking about cowboys, infamous villains, lawmen, marshals and gunfighters // you know the kind; a bunch of sore, low down, foul mouthed stinkin' wretches // greasy scoundrels that were some of the filthiest scum bellys this side of Ironman finishers:
Lines that fit our group ride today:
"If you're crazy enough to try and take in the Swede alone, you got a right to try it on a full stomach." (from “Hang ‘Em High”)
"When a man with a .45 meets a man with a rifle, you said the man with a pistol is a dead man. Let's see if that's true..." (from “A Fist Full of Dollars”)
"If we try ridin' instead of thinkin'... Well, we'd end up hangin' by a rope by nightfall." (Outlaw Josey Wales)
I guess I wasn't suffering today!
