I've had a great past few days in Kona. Thanks to my athletes who are so patient when I hit the road. I was busy supporting friends as they raced IM Hawaii, doing some training and supporting various business activities. I met with Scott Molina. He and I are putting together two camps next year for athletes over 50 years old. Both camps will focus on exciting, challenging bikes routes with frequent running and swimming. We will spend evenings discussing the issues veteran athletes face as we seek to reach competitive goals while managing medical/health issues that endurance athletes face. We want to hit the town each night for dinners and be able to sit around and talk/laugh. You will get stretched physically but you won't be mangled. We plan to be in Tuscany, Italy in early June and Sedona, AZ in September. More to details to come.
On the personal front, I found time to ride some (more than Scott, albeit slower!). On the whole, I got in about 300 miles on the week; all on the course. I can tell you that the entire week was quite warm and the wind was relatively severe on each ride once out on the Queen K. Time riding out was about 15min faster than rides back into the head winds toward the pier even though I raised wattage by 20-30w. Riding towards Hawi, most of us would say it was against a headwind -- until you turned around. SMACK!
Mon -- 112 miles
Wed -- 56 miles
Fri -- 56 miles
Sat -- ~20 miles
