Speaking of bike rides, I went on one last night. It was one of those days when a when post five days on the Steve Jones program, I was feeling like death and doing everything possible to postpone the start time on the ride.
I like a good tail-wind at the start of a ride because that ensures that unless I am truly dead, I dont turn back (into the headwind) and so off I went at 4:20pm. At 5:15, the weather was looking pretty grim, 17-18 degrees and cross winds. I had to stop for a liter of coffee and sugar because I couldnt keep my eyes open but, it seemed to early to stop. Who stops at 5:15pm? Thats like afternoon in my books
Very ambitiously, I made it to the base of a tiny climb, into what felt like 20 minutes of headwind and no power in my legs and then turned around to head home. Caught a group half way and raced with them back to where I needed to be. I called one of my best friends and they had been at an aquathon (in the friggin' cold!) I thought that was hilarious! I was not the only mad person in the neighborhood... some vindication for swimming past the doubts (and studly south korean swimmers) and training for a goal that seems so far away to be real!
