Acceptance of Failure

I was reading through a blog write-up of KPs from 12/07 on racing Ironman and found lesson that "hit home". Acceptance of failure is hard, but they are the most powerful lessons we can learn from. I say this as it has taken me almost a week to finally accept my failure from my recent race in Roth. At first I tried to blame it on dehydration this...stomach that...blah blah blah. I didn't want to accept the fact that although my %FTP was on target, my VI was abyssmal >1.1 As I was getting passed by german uberbiker after uberbiker and I lost focus and discipline. I knew I was having power spikes (interestingly not on the climbs but on the gentle rollers and false flats) but the lure of the uberbikers and a fast bike split got the better of me. The race was great...until the 35k mark of the run...imagine that. Probably predictable. However, as I finally accepted my failure this week I am completely committed to not let that happen again. Plus my wife won't let me...she hates my whining
